Imagine a culture in which each employee feels connected, informed and valued. At the Group, that’s our reality, thanks to the passion and dedication of our Internal Communications Co-ordinator, Grace Kearns.

As Investors in People’s Best Purpose-Driven People Community, our people are at the heart of everything we do. Employee wellbeing and engagement is of paramount importance, and effective internal communications are essential in delivering this.

Leading our internal communications is Grace Kearns, an English Language and Marketing & Communications graduate who joined the Group in 2023. Originally our Marketing Assistant on a fixed-term contract, she quickly became an invaluable asset to the Group, receiving a promotion within six months and securing her current role.

As the Group’s storyteller, she shares regular updates with colleagues via our employee intranet OurSpace, keeping them connected and engaged. From national celebration days to internal projects, she ensures everyone remains informed and is working together towards our shared goal.

“In today’s fast-paced world, it’s more important than ever for organisations to have strong internal communication. When employees are well-informed and engaged, they’re more likely to be productive and contribute to the company’s success.”

Grace’s dedication to collaboration and passion for connecting people was recognised at the Better Future Awards 2024, where she was awarded Top Collaborator of the Year. Embodying our values of success, passion, authenticity, courage and enterprise in everything she does, she has built strong interpersonal relationships with stakeholders and colleagues alike.

“I thrive on collaboration, and my creativity is often sparked by brainstorming with others. I definitely think my love for working collaboratively played a part in my success as Collaborator of the Year.”

One of her proudest achievements has been the creation and delivery of Sovini Speaks, our workplace podcast. With two impactful episodes already released, one centred around mental health and the other apprenticeships, this podcast breaks down barriers and encourages open conversations amongst colleagues.

“It’s been amazing to see our colleagues engage with it, wanting to participate in episodes and tuning in. It’s made a positive impact by tackling important issues like mental health, while also highlighting inspiring stories, such as the women in our company working in construction (a traditionally male-dominated field.) I absolutely love working on this project and I can’t wait to see it grow. Give it a listen if you haven’t already!”

Looking to the future, Grace hopes to explore new ways of improving internal communications across the Group by utilising the latest trends in the ever-changing digital landscape. In the short-term, her priority is continuing to boost employee wellbeing through engaging internal communications, contributing to a positive and productive workplace environment for all.
