In the UK, for every pound a male earns, a female only earns 87 pence. This stark figure emphasises the importance of bridging the Gender Pay Gap in the UK, to ensure a more equal tomorrow.

Over the last decade, the gap has steadily decreased, with estimates suggesting a fall of a quarter amongst full-time employees. In April 2024, the gap was reported to stand at 7.0% in favour of men, marking a reduction of 0.5% from the previous year.

Whilst this progress indicates a positive step in the right direction, it serves as a poignant reminder that gender equality should remain high on our agenda.

How do we measure up?

At The Sovini Group, we believe in a future where everyone has the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their gender. We strive to embed inclusivity into the fabric of our organisation, fostering a positive workplace culture where each voice is valued and heard.

Our actions speak louder than words, and we are proud that we continue to lead the way on gender pay gap reporting, with our gender pay analysis revealing a mean gender pay gap of -2.75% in favour of women.

For us, this figure is more than just numbers; it reflects our dedication to creating a workplace where all can thrive. We empower each individual to reach their full potential, and will continue to champion opportunities for women across the Group in 2025.

Celebrating Women

Throughout 2024/25 we celebrated our colleagues, witnessing two inspiring female apprentices receive prestigious accolades for their contribution to the construction industry.

  • Alicia Johnson, Apprentice Plasterer at Sovini Property Services, was awarded Student of the Year by the Federation of Interior Systems (FIS) and the Worshipful Company of Plasterers, for her exceptional skills and dedication throughout her studies.
  • Summer Fitzmaurice, our talented Plumbing Apprentice, was also named The City of Liverpool’s Apprentice of the Year at the LiverCool Awards, demonstrating the talent and potential of our female apprentices.

Within our leadership team, we are proud to have strong, talented women who drive our business towards success. Anita Spencer, our Chief Business Officer, was recognised as one of the Top 100 Most Influential Women in Construction in 2023, whilst Paula Robinson, our Director of Housing and Customer Services, champions the creation of thriving communities by ensuring our customers have access to high-quality, affordable homes.

We are extremely proud of their achievements, and look forward to continuing to provide opportunities for growth and development for women within our sector.

Understanding the Gender Pay Gap

The Gender Pay Gap is the percentage difference between average hourly earnings for men and women. It is not the difference in pay between men and women doing the same role.

Kerry Beirne, Chief People and Communications Officer for the Group said:

“We are proud to be leading the way with our gender pay gap, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to gender equality.

At the Group, we strongly believe in equal opportunities for all, and strive to create a diverse and inclusive workplace where all colleagues can thrive.

Throughout 2025, we will continue to champion opportunities for females across the Group and further embed inclusivity into the fabric of our organisation.”
