In July 2022, Ykids Deputy CEO, Darran Draper, reached out to The Sovini Group’s Stakeholder Engagement Team for assistance with their upcoming Pirate Fest at Kingsley & Co’s magical bookshop based in the Bootle Strand Shopping Centre.
As part of the event, Ykids wanted to feature a virtual reality experience where children could pretend to ‘walk the plank’. In order to support this project, the Stakeholder Engagement Team worked with Teal Scaffold to provide a selection of scaffolding boards for the event.
Ykids is a charity working to create transformation in Bootle and beyond working with children, young people and families. Their goal is to be a presence throughout young lives, in a variety of settings with young people able to access a range of support, activities and experiences.
Running from 25th July – 6th August, the Pirate Fest gave 1,728 local children an opportunity to join in a series of free pirate themed workshops which included treasure hunts, arts & crafts sessions, quizzes, story times, virtual reality experiences and more.
Darran Draper, Deputy CEO Ykids, said: “The Pirate Festival was a great success. We had 1,728 children and 1,324 adults attend over two weeks. The planks were great. We used them for the VR experience and also had some ‘on sale’ in the shop as a joke. Thank you so much for your continued support”.
