The transition from care to independent living is a pivotal milestone, but without a traditional family safety net, it can often feel overwhelming.

We recognise the unique challenges care-experienced young people face, and are committed to ensuring their transition into the professional world is as smooth as possible.

Our Commitment

To bridge the gap between leaving care and entering the workforce, we offer a wide range of initiatives designed to build confidence, develop skills and create accessible pathways to employment. These include:

  • One Vision Housing’s ‘Roots’ service: A dedicated programme providing tailored plans, support and guidance on all aspects of independent living
  • Guaranteed Interviews: We guarantee interviews for any care-experienced applicant that meets the essential criteria for a role, actively removing initial barriers to entry
  • Values-Based Recruitment: We adopt values-based recruitment where possible, prioritising a candidate’s alignment with our core values, rather than focusing solely on experience
  • Careers Support: From CV writing workshops to ongoing mentorship, we provide the tools needed to thrive in a corporate environment

Why This Matters

Offering career opportunities to care-experienced young people is vital for building a fair and inclusive society. Meaningful employment prevents social isolation, promotes financial independence and empowers individuals.

It actively dismantles systemic barriers, breaking the cycle of hardship and providing crucial mentorship, enabling them to navigate the corporate world effectively. It’s a mutually beneficial partnership, with care-experienced young people bringing diverse perspectives to our workforce, enriching our teams and driving success.

Real Impact: Our Highlights

Our commitment goes beyond policy; it’s reflected in our daily actions. Between January and April 2026, colleagues from across the Group supported a variety of care-experienced individuals, with activities including:

  • A specialised mock assessment centre for two care leavers. The session advised them on what to expect when applying for roles, and taught them how to confidently promote their unique skills to potential employers
  • Three care leavers successfully completed work experience placements at the Group. This provided them with vital insight and a safe environment to develop their professional skills
  • Following a successful work placement, one young person’s time with us was extended. Thanks to fantastic feedback and dedicated support from their line manager, they have now applied for a full-time apprenticeship at the Group
  • Our Learning and Development team provided one-on-one support to another student following their placement, guiding them through the application process for a multi-skilled apprenticeship vacancy

Looking Ahead

Every young person deserves the chance to build a fulfilling career. We are incredibly proud of the progress made by the care leavers we have worked with, and look forward to expanding our initiatives to support even more young people in realising their full potential.
